5.1 FAQs
What's the correct 5.1 speaker placement?
Speaker placement, furniture, room size, room contents and etc. all effect your surround sound performance. As a general rule of thumb follow this placement.
Front Center Channel Speaker: Place the Front Center Channel Speaker directly in front of the listening area, either above or below the television, video display, or projection screen.
Subwoofer: Place the Subwoofer to the left or right of the television.
Left and Right Main/Front Speakers: Place the Left and Right Main/Front speakers equidistant from the Front Center Channel speaker, about a 30 degree angle from the center channel.
Left and Right Surround Speakers: Place the Left and Right Surround Speakers to the left and right side, just to the side or slightly behind the listening position - about 90-110 degrees from the center channel. These speakers can be elevated above the listener.
Can I use more than 6 channels?
Yes you can. You can add another subwoofer to have 5.2 or you could add two more rear speakers to have 7.1 or two more rears and a subwoofer to have 7.2. There are many different options. Contact Klipsch sales support to learn more about your options.
Can it be any 5 speakers and any sub?
It may be any speakers as long as they are the same manufacture and preferably the same model line
THX spec suggests all three front speakers to be the same, example, 3 bookshelves, three center channels ect. Sub is dependent on room size, so model is not necessarily the same.
How do I know which speakers to choose form my 5.1?
It depends on the type of volume level you may be wanting to listen......Concert levels? Large floor standing would be a suggestion, but larger bookshelves as well. Small room at moderate levels, satellites should be fine, HD Theater 300 or 500 or Quintet
What is the best placement of the speakers?
Speakers for the front three should be left and right of the viewing source. Depending on how far back from the "TV", typically 6 to 8 feet apart. Center should be no more then 2 feet above or below the high frequency area of the left and right main speakers. Above or below the TV Surrounds for 5.1, left and right of the seating area, about 2 feet above seated head height. May be placed a little behind or even on the back wall, still at same height suggested
